Dylan’s Wine Cellar in Peekskill – – vintage yet fresh

On April 30th 2011, Steven Zwick and Maribel Almonte-Zwick opened the doors of their new wine shop in Peekskill. It is located in the beautiful and historic Standard House just across from the Peekskill Train Station.

The layout of the store is warm, welcoming, and evokes a light contemporary feeling yet retains a vintage note. Walls are a warm yellow complemented with wine cellar racks of beautiful redwood. Overall, the design is very organized and clean.

Wines are arranged by varietal rather than country or region. This allows customers to explore their favorite grape or blend in one area rather than walking the entire store looking for them.

Steven told me on a recent visit that they created this concept for people like themselves, who enjoy a good everyday wine. Dylan’s Wine Cellar is the namesake of Maribel and Steven’s six-year-old son (lucky little guy).

Recent visits have been met with welcoming smiles, no pressure, and offers to taste.

Prices are very reasonable (generally in the $10 – $30 range) and merchandise is labeled with information about each wine.

Beyond wine, Dylan’s also offers a nice selection of spirits including local creations such as Hudson Valley Whiskey and Vodka.

A whimsical addition to the design are the fun smile-bringing quotes by the famous about wine. Particularly we liked a quote by Thomas Jefferson:

If you are a commuter, you are in a for a treat as soon you’ll be able to fire up your smart phone or iPad and place an order online, while on the train; and have your selections ready when you arrive.

Look for their new website to launch shortly, the address is:
