Wine: Falanghina… an Italian gift

Campania, a region in Italy, south of Rome… (think Naples) which is coastal and rich with volcanic soil thanks mainly to Vesuvius. Despite the long ago tragedy, this volcanic soil produces wines with a great minerality.

Falanghina is one of those whites. It is often aged in steel which keeps a “crisp” element, and has essences of lemon and almond – – even ever-so-slightly floral.

Falanghina complements fish and lightly grilled meats and fish. This wine is nice on a semi-hot day. It must be served at a properly maintained cool temperature.

This is a wine that you will want to drink relatively young and is so reminiscent of being by the shore . Raise your glass to a new find for many Americans.
